What does it mean to be a Registered Play Therapist (RPT)? How is that helpful?

Registered Play Therapists (RPTs) are experts in the fields of childhood, attachment, and parenting. They provide invaluable support to both children and their caregivers, utilizing the most current research, a deep understanding of child development, and effective play therapy techniques. A Registered Play Therapist has the specialized knowledge and skills necessary to guide parents, helping their children progress to the next developmental stage, feel recognized and understood, which ultimately reduces conflict and problem behaviors at home and in school.

To achieve this level of specialization, RPTs undergo extensive training, complete specialized coursework, and acquire years of professional supervision specifically focused on play therapy. Engaging in telehealth counseling with a Registered Play Therapist offers additional video counseling benefits, making it easier for families to access expert support from the comfort of their homes. The rigorous training and education required to earn and maintain this nationally recognized credential ensure that both you and your children receive high-quality care and assistance.

How should I prepare for my video counseling session?

Find a quiet, private place to hold each telehealth counseling session with your Registered Play Therapist. You will need a steady internet connection, and ensure audio/video is enabled on your laptop, tablet, or phone. Using earbuds or headphones can enhance your experience, so consider holding the session in a separate location from the rest of your family. Infants are always welcome in the session. However, it is in the best interest of your toddler or child to be with another caregiver, at school, or with a family member. This way, you can speak candidly about your concerns without them overhearing. Use this time as a special hour just for you. Set aside your favorite cup of cold brew, grab a comfortable seat, and let's get started to explore the video counseling benefits!

What are the benefits of telehealth/video counseling?

Telehealth counseling can save hours of traveling time, reduce costs in gas, minimize lost work time, and alleviate the stress of commuting. With just the click of a button, you can connect with a Registered Play Therapist or other expert professionals from anywhere, whether near or far, all from the comfort of your own home. This method of counseling greatly reduces stress and gives you more time in your day.

You gain easier access to a wider range of professionals with expertise in your specific area of need, enhancing your therapy experience.

Telehealth is particularly beneficial for busy parents and individuals who have been working from home since the pandemic. You can easily hop onto a therapy session after a hectic school drop-off or a stressful meeting on your laptop, allowing you to enjoy the video counseling benefits with remarkable convenience. It’s that easy and that simple—a true win-win.

What can I expect from the first session?

This is a great question! During the first session, I will discuss in detail the informed consent document with you, HIPAA, The No Surprises Act, and answer any questions you might have regarding our telehealth counseling options. As a Registered Play Therapist, I will also share my professional experience, counseling style, the limits of confidentiality, scheduling, payment, and the overall counseling process. This session is a great opportunity to ask questions and discuss your current stressors, hopes, and expectations for counseling.

Together, we will work on setting helpful goals to focus on during our time together, and I will outline the video counseling benefits that come with our sessions. After that, we can schedule the next appointment!

What are your rates? Do you accept insurance?

Yes! I currently accept both private pay and Aetna, United, Oxford, & Oscar insurance for my telehealth counseling sessions. As a Registered Play Therapist, I can help you navigate your counseling journey effectively. If this is the way you would like to begin counseling together, please let me know.

If you prefer not to use insurance for our sessions, the rate is $150 for each 50-minute counseling session. I will provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement upon request. Many clients choose this option to find the best-fit counselor for their needs, taking advantage of the video counseling benefits.
