Online Counseling for Parents, Helpers & Caregivers in Texas

Clover and Bloom Counseling: Frequently Asked Questions

Two people holding hands in a comforting gesture.

What does it mean to be a Registered Play Therapist™ (RPT™)? How is that helpful to me as a parent?

Registered Play Therapists™ are experts in childhood development, attachment, and parenting, providing valuable mental health resources for families. Registered Play Therapists™ (RPTs™) utilize the latest research, a deep understanding of child development, and effective play therapy techniques to support both children and their caregivers. With their expert knowledge, RPTs help parents guide their children as they progress to their next developmental stage, ensuring they feel seen and understood, which in turn reduces conflict and problem behaviors at home and school.

To achieve this specialization, RPTs earn their credential through extensive training, specialized coursework, and years of professional supervision focused on play therapy. The telehealth benefits of working with a Registered Play Therapist™ make access to these essential mental health resources more convenient, highlighting the importance of the rigorous training and education required to earn and maintain this nationally recognized credential.

What are the benefits of telehealth/video counseling?

Telehealth can save hours of traveling time, reduce gas expenses, eliminate lost work hours, and minimize the stress of commuting. With just the click of a button, you can connect with a Registered Play Therapist or other mental health resources from the comfort of your own home, no matter where you are. This method of counseling significantly reduces stress and gives you more time in your day.

You gain easier access to a wider array of professionals who specialize in your area of need, enhancing your mental health journey.

Telehealth is particularly beneficial for busy parents and individuals who have been working from home since the pandemic. You can easily hop onto a therapy session right after a hectic school drop-off or a stressful meeting on your laptop. It’s that simple and effective—a true win-win.

How should I prepare for my video counseling session?

Find a quiet, private place to hold each session and take advantage of the telehealth benefits available. You will need a steady internet connection with audio/video enabled on your laptop, tablet, or phone. Using earbuds or headphones is recommended, and it's best to conduct the session in a separate location from the rest of your family. Infants are always welcome in the session. However, for the best interest of your toddler or child, it’s ideal for them to be with another caregiver, at school, or with a family member. This way, you can speak candidly about your concerns without them overhearing. Use this time as a special hour just for you, focusing on your mental health resources. Set aside your favorite cup of cold brew or tea, grab a comfortable seat, and let's get started with your Registered Play Therapist!

What can I expect from the first session?

This is a great question! During the first session, I will discuss in detail the informed consent document with you, HIPAA, The No Surprises Act, and answer any questions you might have. I will share my professional experience as a Registered Play Therapist, my counseling style, the limits of confidentiality, scheduling, payment, and the overall counseling process. This session is a valuable opportunity to ask questions and discuss your current stressors, hopes, and expectations for counseling, as well as the mental health resources available to you. We will work together to establish helpful goals to focus on during our time together and schedule the next appointment, considering the telehealth benefits that may suit your needs!

Are you providing 100% telehealth counseling?

Yes! I provide convenient online counseling for adults living in the state of Texas, making it easy for you to access mental health resources from anywhere in the state. The great news is that you can connect with me no matter where you are in Texas. Telehealth benefits include a simple way to receive support when you need it most, all from the comfort of your own home. Plus, it fits perfectly into your busy schedule without the hassle of traffic or parking struggles. Together, we can work towards finding a path forward that helps you feel your best, whether it's through traditional counseling or as a Registered Play Therapist.

I do not provide emergency or crisis services, but you can receive excellent help from one of the helplines listed below. Here are some valuable resources to assist you if you need them urgently.

Emergency Resources:

1) If experiencing a mental health or other emergency, dial 911 and ask for a mental health officer right away. You can also visit the nearest emergency room.

2) Call or Text the National Crisis Hotline from any phone at 988, available 24/7, 365 days a year.

3) Any parent can call or Text The National Maternal Mental Health Hotline 24/7 at 1-833-TLC-MAMA to speak with a certified peer specialist who should respond within the hour, if not minutes. For additional support, consider the telehealth benefits that allow you to connect with a Registered Play Therapist or other mental health professionals from the comfort of your home.

I need lower-cost therapy options and I cannot use private pay right now. How can I get help?

Here are some organizations and websites that provide valuable mental health resources, including sliding-scale, low-cost therapy services.

This initiative helps individuals access affordable therapy from approved providers for 8-10 sessions at a significantly reduced rate. You can also explore the telehealth benefits that many providers offer, making it easier to receive support from the comfort of your home.
